Hello, Leading Language Detectives! As you enter my Reading,Language Arts, Social Studies classroom this year at ACES, you will see that we will be HOT on the trail of learning! We will use the Detective theme because we are on a mission...to be responsible for learning Reading, Language and Social Studies skills. We will be respectful to others as we work and learn together as a team. We will lead the way in always doing our best to reach success!
In 4th grade Reading and Language Arts, you will be taught all five of the literacy skills...reading, writing, grammar, spelling and speaking/listening skills while following the ELA Common Core Standards. We usually start each class with spelling, journal writing, daily oral language, reading, or flashbacks where we review common core standards daily. We will alternate grammar units with writing pieces, and we will practice our reading skills everyday! Each week, students will be given a new spelling list on Monday and will have a spelling test over those words on Fridays.
I will also give students the opportunity to order books from Scholastic Book Clubs once a month. Keep an eye out for these book orders in your child's Wednesday folder!
In Social Studies, our focus will be on Kentucky history! I am so excited to teach and learn with my students cool things about our great state! We are already planning a field trip to Frankfort in the spring! We always look forward to this trip!
Please encourage your child to do their best work! I hold high expectations for all my students. I believe all students can learn and hope to help all my students to see that each and every student is a leader and can achieve success.
"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way."
