I am Ms.Cayce Davenport, visual art teacher at ACHS. As a graduate of Adair County schools I know first hand the long rich tradition our visual arts program has built and maintained over the last 40 years. It is my mission to sustain and build upon that through a rigorous visual arts curriculum. I was schooled at the University of Kentucky by some of art education's most influential individuals. As a result, my approach to visual arts education is a mixture of Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE) and exploratory learning.
My commitment to art education extends past the classroom through my work within my professional organizations. I am an active member of the Kentucky Art Educators Association and I sit on the board of the National Art Educators Association as the Southeast Region Secondary Division Coordinator.
Art Education & making art are my life's passions! I am what I feel like is the most crucial type of art educator, an "artist educator"; meaning I am also a working artist. My husband and I run a studio at our home here in Columbia specializing in a variety of art forms from printmaking to metal sculpture. We participate in arts festivals as well as take on a number of private/public commissioned works. My artwork can be found in Chicago, Tampa, Atlanta, Louisville, & of course right here in Columbia.
All art students at ACHS have the opportunity to participate in the National Art Honors Society, a grades based club for students enrolled in visual arts. Our members participate in regional and national art competitions, travel to various arts venues, and fellowship through art based activities.
I also organize educational tours to locations abroad for students and teachers through EF Tours which I represent as a Teacher Ambassador. We have traveled to Italy, London, Paris, and will trekking to Ireland in 2020
