As part of our third grade physics unit about determining patterns in motion, the students built roller coasters…on the exterior walls of the Adair County Elementary School! Students worked their way to this culminating performance task by investigating the effects of ramps, friction, and gravity. They measured height and length, calculated average speed and time, predicted, recorded data and wrote conclusions. They were so persistent in their efforts and problem solving we just had to share their success with the community. The only materials we used were some locally purchased piping insulation, marbles, masking tape, and a sturdy wall. Definitely, try this at home!
