In recent years there has been an ongoing educational debate about the validity of the Arts in our schools. During this period, teachers of the Arts have taken different approaches to prove the worth of their discipline. Some have created rigorous written curriculum, power points and terms, then a test, but the few and best have found a way to incorporate rigorous lessons with higher order thinking (which is about creativity at its core) to make developing students creativity the heart of their teaching style. When this is done successfully, it is a win-win for students and fellow staff. When a student learns to think and be creative it naturally flows into every area of their life, including other academic areas.
Katie Campbell the Adair County Middle Schools Art teacher has become a master at challenging her students and developing their high order thinking skills in regards to creativity. Our district is truly blessed to have Mrs. Campbell and her dedication to teaching skills which are relevant in every area of life, using what she loves most, which is Art.
