We are learning…

7:00

Arrival & Morning Routine

Students do the morning routine as they arrive.  The routine is put belongings away, say bye to his/her family, answer the question of the day, sign-in, and pick a fine motor letter of the day morning box.

Breakfast

Students choose their breakfast choice in cafeteria and sit beside a friend of choice.  This is a great time to talk about nutrition and build socialization skills.

Bathroom & Handwashing

Students will use the bathroom if needed.  All students will wash their hands.

Calendar

 

Music & Movement

We review the calendar and schedule and talk about our day.  The leaders will present the “live’ weather report using the projector.  There is tons of math embedded in to calendar time. 

Music time is filled with songs, rhymes, instruments, and use of gross motor equipment.  Through music we build and learn various skills, phonemic awareness, math concepts, music, social skills, and gross motor skills.

Circle 1

We start with the message of the day to build literacy skills.  Then, we read a book related to our theme.  Students share, join in, making meaning, and make connections to build reading comprehension, book knowledge, and /or phonemic awareness.  We may also do connecting activities (charts, graphs, songs, etc.) to build oral language, social skills, science/math concepts, and various literacy skills.

Centers

Students pick a center they want to work in with a friend or independently.  Students change centers as they wish.  Our centers are art, blocks, science, library, housekeeping, writing, and math manipulatives.  New themed activities are added to each center every week.  Skills and concepts student are learning during centers are literacy, math, science, art, fine motor, and social skills.

Small Group

At some point during center time, students will work with the teacher in a smaller group to learn various literacy, math, or science skills and concepts.  New games and activities are introduced at this time to ensure student success.  They groups are always changing based on students’ abilities, interest, or random selection.

Circle 2

For circle 2 we focus on building social skills and character using the Second Steps program.  We will use a variety of teaching tools such as; role play, puppets, think-pair-share, and group discussions.

Small groups & Technology

 

Children will have free choice on the iPads to play math or literacy skilled games.  Students will also be learning math and/or literacy skills in a small group during this time with a teacher.

Outside / Gross Motor

Various gross motor activities are set up around the playground to practice and develop various gross motor skills.

Inside Gym / Gross Motor

Various gross motor activities will be available for students to practice gross motor skills and challenges in the gym.  Students can play independently or work as a team on team building activities.

Lunch

Students choose their lunch choice in cafeteria and sit beside a friend of choice.  This is a great time to talk about nutrition, manners, and build socialization skills.

Bathroom & Handwashing

Students will use the bathroom if needed.  All students will wash their hands.  All students will get mats and blankets out of their lockers.

Rest Time

All students rest quietly on their mats.  Teachers will play quiet music, rub backs, and sit with students if needed.

Snack

Snack provides many opportunities to explore math concepts and skills.  All students will wash their hands before and after snack.  They will use the bathroom during this time if needed.

Dismissal Routine

Students will clean up, use the restroom, pack up belongings, and return to the carpet for stories while waiting for pick up time or bus.
